Truly a hidden jewel located between Florence and Walton, Kentucky, the small bedroom community of Union has so much to offer, making it a most desirable place to live. There are 5,600 residents in the area.
Although the feeling is still suburban rural, in recent years Union and outlying areas have been experiencing a surge in residential growth bringing to the area newer suburban housing as well as luxury estates nestled on wooded acreage. There is no major business or industry in the area and the residents seem to prefer it that way. People seem to fall in love with Union because it’s one of the few places you can still purchase a home in the “country” and be only minutes from city conveniences and the expressways. Union residents have the distinction of having the highest average property values in the county, the highest per capita income in the county and the lowest unemployment rate! Transportation
Union is only 10 minutes from I-75 and 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati and just a few miles from the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International airport. The region is bisected by Kentucky State Route 42.
Hospitals
St. Elizabeth West Hospital is located at I-75 at the Florence Exit and staffs a 24-hour emergency room. Other nearby hospitals include St. Elizabeth South in Edgewood (10 minutes) and St. Elizabeth North in Covington (15 minutes).
Shopping
The Florence Mall is a short drive away and features 130 speciality stores. Crestview Hills Town Center is located at I-275 and Dixie Highway and is a lifestyle center featuring Dillards as an anchor along with a wide assortment of speciality stores and restaurants.
Recreation
The Florence/Boone County Skate Park= with 22,000 square feet of concrete is a park for skateboarders, bikers, rollerblades and in-line skaters of course. Located on the campus of the Florence Government Center, this facility is designed for the novice as well as the experts.
'Florence Freedom', a Frontier League Baseball team was the 2005 Frontier League of the Year. Florence Freedom plays at Champion Field in the heart of Boone County, and offers a hometown, professional baseball experience and is an outing for young and old alike.
R.C. Durr YMCA is a state-of-the-art YMCA centrally located in Boone County on Route 18. The Y features a heated indoor pool and an outdoor pool, both with 25 lanes. A fitness center with cardio, strength training and free weights, the YMCA has personal fitness programs, a full gymnasium other programs for members.
Boone County has several public golf courses: 'Boone Links' has been named “Best Bang for the Buck” by Golf Digest. This 27-hole facility is open year round, weather permitting. Just off of Route 18 between Florence, Hebron and Burlington, 'Lassing Point' is an 18-hole course with a driving range and short-game center on the premises. 'World of Golf 'is a great place to play, practice and learn.
Dinsmore Homestead is a unique historical site where visitors can learn what rural life was like in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Home Tours and seasonal events are a highlight to Boone County History. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking trails developed with the Kentucky Nature Conservancy and the Boone County Parks Program.There are several Boone County parks near Union: 'Boone County Central Park & Arboretum', with 121 acres of botanical gardens, trails and athletic fields. 'Orleans Park' has 11 acres and features a shelter with picnic tables, playground, basketball court, sand volleyball court, stocked lake and a paved walking trail. 'South Fork Park' features 42 acres with a picnic shelter, playground, sand volley ball court, basketball court, bike path and natural wooded and meadow areas.
Boone County naturally attracts horse lovers, but is also popular with those looking for sports such as swimming, soccer, baseball, tennis, and pee wee football. The arts are represented with dance and art classes available locally and in neighboring Cincinnati. Most any activity is within reach for Boone County residents.
