About
Local Events

Spread out over 34 miles, Hanover Township’s 8700 residents cluster around the villages of Millville and McGonigle and then string out throughout the township mostly at family farms. Tucked into west central Butler County between Oxford and Hamilton, Hanover Township is experiencing steady growth with several large housing developments claiming previously farmed lands. Residents here are proud of their rural roots. They enjoy a deep sense of tradition; many families still live in the homes their grandparents built, and farm the same lands. Hanover Township is primarily farmland, but that’s changing each year because of its closeness to Butler County’s bigger cities.

Transportation

Busy U.S. Rt. 127 connects Cincinnati to Oxford and cuts centrally through the township. St. Rt. 177 bisects the northern half of the township, St. Rt. 130 the central half, and St. Rt.129 crosses the southern half of the township. Butler County has three regional airports, including Butler County Regional in Hamilton, Hook Field in Middletown, and Miami University Field in Oxford. Cincinnati West Airport is less than 15 minutes away in Harrison; it’s a short 25-30 minute drive to the Greater Cincinnati International Airport.

Hospitals

Monroe Township Volunteer Fire and EMS along with the Millville Fire Department serve the area residents. McCullough Hyde Hospital in Oxford, and Mercy Hospital Fairfield is located just southeast of Hanover Township in Fairfield. The Fort Hamilton Hospital located to the east in Hamilton offers yet another choice of medical care, close to home.

Shopping

The villages of Millville to the south and McGonigle to the north offer quick visits for daily shopping needs. For more extensive shopping, township residents head east to Hamilton or Fairfield.

Recreation

Much of Hanover Township still retains its rural charm so most of the recreational focus is aimed outdoors, whether hunting or riding dirt bikes and ATV’s. There’s lots of space to try your hand at gardening, getting in shape with bicycling, or numerous other outdoor pursuits. Busy 18-acre Hanover School Memorial Park includes walking trails, nature areas, playgrounds and picnic sites as well as a Veterans Memorial. Just outside Oxford about 10 minutes away, Houston Woods State Park offers boating, swimming, hiking, picnicking and more; it’s a popular destination.
