Monroe was named in honor of President James Monroe who took office when the city was being settled. The city now has over 13,500 residents.

Monroe, 22 miles north of Cincinnati and 25 minutes southwest of Dayton was a major stagecoach stop on the Great Miami Turnpike. It's a city of sturdy little homes that have been standing for a hundred years or more. These historical structures, with their neat lawns and gardens in the rear, have a dignity all their own. Monroe is situated in a thriving area and is convenient to the industrial valley. This blending of old and new homes gives the city an exciting lifestyle for homebuyers of all ages.

Transportation

Monroe is located on I-75. St. Rts. 63 and 4 run through the heart of the city.

Hospitals

Atrium Hospital and a branch of Dayton's Children's Hospital are located off of I-75 within a 10-minute drive from Monroe. UC Health West Chester hospital is located to the south off I-75. The Cincinnati Children's Medical Center – Liberty Campus is located to the south within a 10-minute drive. There are many other fine hospitals located in Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio within 45 minutes to one hour.

Shopping

Cincinnati Premium Outlet is located off of I-75 in Monroe and offers 100+ stores. It’s a popular destination for shoppers with brands such as Michael Kors, Coach and more. Walmart, Lowes, Kohls and Target are located in Monroe. Flea market fans love Monroe for its Turtle Creek and Trader's World outdoor and indoor flea markets. Near the highway strip malls, fast food restaurants and other services proliferate. Downtown local merchants provide general merchandise and services conveniently for residents.

Recreation

This is a small town with all the intimate pleasures that provides. There are youth soccer, basketball and baseball leagues. The Monroe Swim Club is busy in the summer months. The Field Sports Arena is located in the city with indoor soccer fields and sand volleyball courts. For golf enthusiasts, Shaker Run Golf Course is located nearby in Lebanon and features a 27-hole championship course. Miami Valley Gaming casino is conveniently located in Monroe for those who gamble.

For those who enjoy the arts, you can head to nearby Middletown. An artist and lecture series is sponsored and held at the Miami University Middletown Campus. The Middletown Fine Arts Center, Sorg Opera Company and Middletown Lyric Theatre and Pendleton Arts Center in Middletown all provide exceptional experiences, exhibits and events throughout the year.

The Pioneer Log Cabin is located in Monroe Community Park and features pioneer-style furnishings and artifacts.

Monroe is well known for its annual Monroe City Fest with fun for all ages.
