The village of South Vienna was platted in 1833 by John H. Dynes and was named after Vienna, Austria. The area was settled by Scotch-Irish and Dutch settlers from Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina. South Vienna was and still is a farming community with approximately 385 residents.
For those seeking a small-town life, there are homes of various sizes – both old and new – are found in the area. Many homes have acreage.
Transportation
Interstate 70 runs close to the village. State Routes 54 and 40 bisect the area.

Springfield Regional Medical Center services the area. Madison Health Hospital is located in London, Ohio.
Shopping
There are a few local stores and restaurants in the village including a convenience store. A Walmart Supercenter is a short drive away. More shopping opportunities are available to the east in Springfield, Ohio.
Recreation
Dynes Memorial Park has eight acres and offers a covered picnic area, playground and two baseball fields. The annual Corn Festival is held on the weekend after Labor Day for three days and has games, a parade, corn-eating contests as well as plenty of food.
