Arcanum is located in Darke County in the state of Ohio’s agricultural belt and it’s motto is: A Destination Place. Founded in 1849 by William Gunder, the area was incorporated into a village in 1858.
The village has 2,100 residents. Homes range from modest to rambling ranch homes as well as historic and modern two-story homes. There are many farm-style residences on acreage.
Transportation
Arcanum is 35 miles northwest of Dayton, Ohio and 15 miles east of the Indiana state border. Interstate 70 is the closest highway. The Dayton International Airport is 25 miles away.
Hospitals
Sidney has Wilson Memorial Hospital with 90 beds and over 250 physicians. Wayne Hospital is located in Greenville and has 125 physicians and nurses.
Shopping
Several businesses and shops are available for every day needs in the heart of the village. One can find gift and antique shops along with some variety stores. A Farmers Market is available during warmer months in the Veterans Memorial Park.
Recreation
The village has three parks as well as a community swimming pool. Arcanum Community Park and Ivester Community Park have baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts as well as playground and picnic areas. The Veterans Memorial Park has a commemoration to war heroes. The village offers annual events such as Old Fashioned Days downtown festival; Christmas on George Street to kick off the season; and Tour De Donut, a unique bicycle event held in September.
