The restoration in Columbia-Tusculum is preserving the distinctive historical character of the area. There's an abundance of old frame homes with high ceilings, wood floors, and many decorative elements like gingerbread and steam boat gothic. Stately Victorians are pleasantly situated on the hillside. In recent years, the addition of contemporary homes, condominiums, popular restaurants and meeting places have created an air of sophistication. Each building, old and new, has its own architectural integrity.
Transportation
It is a 10-minute drive to downtown by way of Columbia Parkway (SR50) or Riverside Drive (SR52). Once near downtown, connections to I-71 and I-75 are easily accessed. Queen City Metro Bus service serves the area on a regular schedule with a bus ride time of approximately 20 minutes to downtown.
Hospitals
The following hospitals are located within a 15-minute drove of Tusculum: University of Cincinnati Hospital, The Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Shopping
There are quite a few interesting local small shops and restaurants located along Eastern Avenue and Riverside Drive (SR52). The Precinct (an iconic local steak house is located in a former police station) and is a popular place to have a fine-dining experience. Approximately 10 minutes to the north is Hyde Park Plaza, Rookwood Commons and Rookwood Pavilion which serve all convenience needs. Fifteen minutes to the east is Anderson Towne Center which offers a wide selection of shops and services.
Recreation
Schmidt Memorial Playfield, Turkey Ridge Playfield and Alms Park are located in Tusculum and offer a variety of activities. California Golf Course/Nature Preserve are located nearby. Marinas along the Ohio River provide excellent facilities for boating enthusiasts. Also nearby is Lunken Playfield which offers tennis, archery, golf and baseball. The Lunken Airport serves private planes.
The Irish Heritage Center of Greater Cincinnati presents programs such as musicals, dance, plays produced by the Irish American Theater Company.
The Carnegie Center of Columbia-Tusculum is a non-profit community center where residents gather for meetings and cultural events.
