Southeast Indiana Area

Sidney is located in Shelby County and has 21,000 residents. The city is named after Sir Phillip Sidney, an English poet. Many of the city’s schools are name after famous writers: Emerson, Longfellow and Whittier, for example. The area historically served as the the hunting grounds for the Shawnee and Miami Indians. In the 1800s Sidney utilized the canal system (Miami-Erie) for transportation previous to the installation of railroads.

Sidney earned the 1964 All-America City Award which recognizes citizens who work together. The city was the subject of the award-winning 2009 documentary film “45365” which showcased everyday life in the city. One finds homes of all price ranges and styles in Sidney.
