Union Township has 15,000 residents and the region surrounds the city of Wilmington. Approximately 3,000 residents live in unincorporated areas. Union Township was established in 1813 and was named because it was a “union” of land from three townships. With outstanding community services , this “rural” region has an established professional culture with many diverse locally owned businesses.

Union Township offers many types of homes from houses on acreage to newly built suburban-style residences in all price ranges.

Transportation

Major roads in the township include 3C Highway (SRs 3 and 22), US Rt 68 and SRs 73, 730 and 134. Wilmington Airport (aka Airborn Airpark) is located within the township.

Hospitals

Clinton Memorial Hospital is located in Wilmington.

Shopping

There are numerous local shops and restaurants located in downtown Wilmington (which is on the National Register of Historic Places.) The General Denver Hotel/Restaurant dates back to 1928, and is still in operation. The Caesar Creek Markets have hundreds of vendor booths and is open on weekends. Shoppes at the Old Mill and the Rusty Star are great places for antique browsing.

Recreation

Area residents enjoy the annual Wilmington Banana Split Festival, the Corn Festival (known for the outhouse races and antique barns) and the annual Clinton Count Fair as well as the Holidazzle event. Wilmington’s main street hosts many community events an concerts. The Murphy Theater located in Wilmington offers live entertainment as well as movies and other community events throughout the year. Wilmington College and Southern State Community College are located in Wilmington.

Caesar Creek State Park is located in the region and offers camping, swimming, water skiing and boating on the 2,800-acre lake. Outdoor enthusiasts also enjoy hiking some of the 43 miles of trails. Cowan Lake State Park has 7,000 acres with a beach, hiking trails and one mile of mountain bike trails. Enjoy swimming, fishing and hunting there as well. The 797 Elks Golf Club has 18 holes along a walkable course. Snow Hill Golf Course in New Vienna has a championship-quality 18-hole course. Majestic Spring golf course is another 18-hole course option.

The Clinton County Trails Coalition has almost 30 miles of abandoned rail lines that are being converted into recreation trails for hikers and bikers. The JW Denver Williams Jr Memorial Park has 26 acres that includes a unique handicapped-accessible playground and a 1.5-acre dog park.
